Vistara looks East

Vistara on Tuesday announced its entry into the North-east from April 2, adding Guwahati and Bagdogra to its network.

 The announcement came as the exemption given to airline, a joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, to comply with the requirement of operating flights to financially unviable regions like North-east was ending on April 9. The government had allowed a three-month exemption from complying with this requirement.

With this addition, the two-month-old airline would be flying to seven destinations. Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Goa and Hyderabad are the other destinations of Vistara. “We will soon announce the addition of more destinations and some exciting enhancements to our product and services offerings,” the airline said.Vistara will operate daily services from April 2 connecting Delhi with Guwahati and Bagdogra. After a brief stopover at Guwahati, the flight will proceed to Bagdogra, a gateway airport to several tourist destinations in the North-east. “This announcement has come in quick succession to the two recent route launches to Goa and Hyderabad, indicating the focused expansion of the airline,” the airline said.

Three-month exemption

Vistara has been allowed a three-month exemption from complying with the requirement of operating flights to the financially unviable regions like the North-east, the government said on Tuesday. 
In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said that the Tata-SIA Airline was allowed deferment of the compliance of route dispersal guidelines for three months from the day of starting its operations.
