Missing American woman found with injury marks

A 43-year-old American woman, who had gone missing from a guest house in Vrindavan last week, was found in a disoriented and battered state in Parikrama Marg here, police said today.

The California native, who had been staying at Yashoda Krishnadham guest house in Vrindavan, had gone missing on February 27, following which a missing complaint was filed with the police by the guest house's manager the same day, they said.

She was found on Tuesday night with injury marks on her body, SSP (Mathura) Manjil Saini said, adding, a case has been registered against unidentified persons under Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC.

The woman has alleged rape by an unidentified person but a medical examination carried out on her has ruled out any sexual assault, he said.

According to the Superintendent of District Women's Clinic Dr B D Bhaskar, the woman is in a disoriented state as of now, but her condition is gradually improving.

"For detailed medical examination, she has been referred to S N College in Agra," Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Yadav said, adding no case of rape has been registered.
Efforts are on to find out how she received injury marks on her body, he said.

SSP Saini said, "The next course of action will be decided after the woman's medical report arrives. We are examining the CCTV footage from the guest house to see whether any person was accompanying her when she left the place."

Saini said the US Embassy has been informed and the officials there have said that the woman's mother is on her way to India.
