Revenue department delivers highest number of services under Sakaala

A statistical statement on Sakaala scheme has revealed that the Revenue department has delivered most number of services (3.4 crore) while at the other end, not a single citizen sought any services from the Forest department under the time-bound scheme.

Sakaala, launched in April 2012, seeks to provide government services to citizens within a stipulated time. According to the statement released by Law Minister T B Jayachandra in Bengaluru on Thursday, the Revenue department delivered more than 3.4 crore services to citizens since the launch of the scheme. A majority of the services included provision of caste certificates, income certificates and residence certificates.

The Transport department stands next with 93 lakh services delivered to citizens such as registration of vehicles, issue of learners’ license, driving license, among others. The Commercial Taxes department stands third, with 52 lakh services to citizens. At the bottom of the ladder is the Forest department. The department offers six services under Sakaala, including distribution of seeds, permission of cutting trees, ex-gratia for cattle killed by wild animals, among others.

However, no application was received for the services till date although there are 450 designated offices of the department in the State. The Public Works Department, whose permission is required for road cutting of major roads, installation of hoardings along highways, received only 1,043 applications for these services.

Jayachandra said Sakaala touch screen kiosks have been installed in the deputy commissioners offices in all the 30 districts to enable citizens to have easy access to Sakaala-related services. District-wise, Bengaluru urban has delivered the most number of services (1.23 crore) so far, while Kodagu district is the least at seven lakh services, Jayachandra said.
