Victim's father favours screening

Last Updated 05 March 2015, 20:40 IST

While questioning the ban on its screening in India, the father of the Delhi gang-rape victim has said that “India’s Daughter” should be watched by everybody as it reflects the mindset of the society

“Everyone should watch the film. If a man can speak like that in jail, imagine what he would say if he was walking free,” the father was quoted by NDTV as saying.
“The documentary exposes what is happening. If the country has taken a decision, we have to accept it,” he told NDTV.

The victim’s father, however, did express his strong objection to his daughter’s name being made public in the documentary, claiming that he had specifically told the film’s producers not to do so.

“Despite clearly telling them not to make the name and photo of our daughter public, they have gone ahead with it and this is not right.. we will take legal action against this,” the father of the victim said according to PTI. He expressed faith that the government would take adequate action. “BBC has thrown a challenge to the Indian government and we are confident that they will be given a suitable reply soon,” the victim’s father said.

He added that his family and him were happy with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for responding to the issue with alacrity. The victim’s father also urged the central government to pursue the matter in the Supreme Court so that suitable punishment is given to the convicts at the earliest.
