Four members of a gang have been arrested with fake Indian currency notes brought to the capital from Bangladesh. Fake notes with face value of Rs 6 lakh in denomination of Rs 1,000 have been recovered, police said on Thursday.

The arrested accused include the gang’s Bihar-based mastermind Shahnawaz Ansari and his close accomplice Sheikh Noor Ullah who heads Delhi operation along with suppliers Sheikh Ata Ullah and a juvenile.

“We had information that Noor Ullah and Ata Ullah would come near Kashmere Gate ISBT to supply a cosignment,” said Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
Acting on the information, a police team apprehended both of them.
On their search, fake notes with face value of Rs 1 lakh were seized.During interrogation, information from Noor Ullah and Ata Ullah led to the arrest of Shahnawaz.

Fake notes with face value of Rs 3.75 lakh were recovered from his possession.
One of their accomplices, a juvenile, was also apprehended with fake notes worth Rs 20,000.

Ata Ullah and the juvenile circulated the fake notes in markets of Delhi and NCR. Interrogation revealed that Shahnawaz was running the gang from Bihar and West Bengal.

“Members of the gang used to frequently change their hideouts and descriptions to conceal identity and avoid detection,” Yadav added.

It has been found that the fake notes were being brought to India from Bangladesh.
The notes were brought to West Bengal’s Murshidabad district from where Shahnawaz circulated them in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Bihar.

“Consignment in Murshidabad was being collected at 30 to 40 per cent value of the fake notes. Shahnawaz gave them to other gang members at 50 to 60 per cent value of the fake notes,” Yadav said.

Shahnawaz earlier worked as an electrician in Bangalore where he came in contact of another gang involved with circulation of fake notes.

Noor Ullah and Ata Ullah are brothers and used to work as painters with a contractor.
