HC vacates stays on KMF chief's appointment

Last Updated 06 March 2015, 18:45 IST

The High Court on Friday vacated the stay on the government notification issued on January 30, appointing IAS officer S N Jayaram as managing director of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF).

Justice H G Ramesh ordered vacating the stay on an interlocutory application (IA) by the State government. Defending the government’s stand, Advocate General Ravivarma Kumar said the State had the power to appoint the managing director under section 2AA(i) of the Karnataka Co-operative Societies Act, 1959.  I R Ramalinge Gowda has challenged the government's appointment, saying the KMF's board of directors had passed a resolution appointing him (Gowda) as MD. He was suspended following accusations of irregularities.

The KMF board appointed Gowda to the post after the retirement of A S Premnath. But the government appointed Jayaram instead, prompting Gowda to move the court which then ordered stay on the appointment.
