A 21-year-old youth was stabbed to death and another injured during a scuffle between two groups in west Delhi’s Ranhola on Friday. No arrest has been made, police said on Saturday.

Mohit Singh was a BA student who was also pursuing a course in multimedia from a private institute. He stayed with his family in Vikas Nagar.

Injured 21-year-old Rahul Ranga told police that they were attacked by a group led by Rakesh who works with Reliance Infrastructure.

“Few months back, Rakesh had caught Rahul’s father for electricity theft and had been taking bribe from the family to ignore the theft. On Friday, the issue of bribe led to a scuffle between the two groups,” said a police officer.

Mohit had left home to celebrate Holi with Rahul and another friend Shiv Kumar.
Around 1.30 pm, they were near Rahul’s house when Rakesh came there and told Rahul to pay the bribe on time.

Rahul and Rakesh had a heated argument over the issue after which Rakesh threatened Rahul and left the spot.

Rahul claimed that Rakesh returned after 10 minutes with a group of seven-eight men, which included local criminals. Rahul has identified two of the criminals as Pawan and Vicky Takkar.

“The group was armed with knives and thrashed Rahul and his friends,” the officer added.

It is alleged that Vicky attacked Mohit with a knife. Mohit collapsed there, but the group continued to thrash him. Rahul was attacked with a knife by Rakesh, while Pawan hit him with a brick.

As Mohit and Rahul were seriously injured, the group fled from the spot. Shiv along with locals took Mohit and Rahul to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in an autorickshaw. Mohit was declared brought dead.

A case of murder and attempt to murder under Indian Penal Code has been registered with Ranhola police station.

“The attackers were under the influence of alcohol. Efforts are on to nab them,” the officer said.
