By the students, but for everyone

The Atelier’s ACT Campus Theatre Festival is back again. In its eighth edition, the eight-day festival will have plays exploring problems in different systems – social, political and judiciary. It will open with ‘Songs of Freedom’ – a collage of musical performance by the 10 participating street theatre teams from different colleges at Central Park, Rajiv Chowk from 4 pm onwards.

The serious business of drama will start from March 15 onwards at Studio Safdar, Shadi Khampur, Ranjit Nagar from 4 pm with play Pyare Laal Toy Shop by students of Guru Teg Bahadur Institute of Technology. It takes Jatayu as metaphor, to highlight the ‘ignorance and shallowness’ in our educational system.

This will be followed Chacha Chaudhary Aur Dinanath Ki Waapsi by Gargi College, probing ‘educational terrorism, censorship of academic freedom and cultural hegemony’. While IP College students will talk about the politics of consumersim in the play Manmarziyan.

On March 16, at St. Mark’s School, Meera Bagh, Paschim Vihar, the theatrical extravaganza will begin from 10 am onwards. SGTB Khalsa College’s Welcome To The Machine will investigate how the religious forces assert their dominance over the other by means of culture, education and institutional structures.

Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce in their play Hum Ghum Hogaye (We’ve Got Lost) will highlight the plight of marginalised sections of the society. In Jaane Kaha Gaye Wo Din students of Shivaji College will portray the dwindling condition of the dying performing artistes.

At Sri Venkateswara International School, Dwarka, on March 17, Kissa Jaana Anjana by Hindu College, Tu Haar Na Maan by Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (Evening), Finding Shammi by Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies and Nabbe Second Ki Red Light by College of Vocational Studies, will present their act. The God Dilemma by Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, an English play will be staged at Akshara Theatre, Baba Kharak Singh Marg on March 18, 5 pm onwards. On the same day, Sri Venkateswara College will stage The Goat, Or Who
is Sylvia? Negative Space and Parachute by St Stephen’s College and The Interview by Hindu College will be staged on March 19. On March 20, at LTG Auditorium, Algaav by Ramjas College, Metro by Hansraj College, Kya Dilli, Kya Lahore by Delhi Technological University will
be staged.

The highlight of the last day will be The Open Couple by Ramjas College, Pune Highway by Shri Ram College of Commerce and Kultar’s Mime by Boston-based theatre group which will be staged
at Kamani Auditorium from 4.30 pm onwards.
