Sung by the humble Kanika Kapoor, the song became a chart-topper and catapulted her to fame overnight, Kanika says she wanted to be a performing artiste since childhood.

“I have grown up in a simple family in Lucknow and my parents are very traditional. They sent me to learn Kathak. I even took singing and piano lessons. When I was six or seven years old, they realised that I was good in singing and sent me to a very serious guru who agreed to train me,” recollects the singer who started singing for the All India Radio by the time she turned 11.

“The inter-school competitions, which I won as a kid, were a great boost and I realised early in life that I wanted to be on stage!”

Though her journey began early, it took her a few years to establish herself as a leading singer in Bollywood.

“Sunny Leone was the best suited for Baby Doll and Deepika (Padukone) took the song Lovely to another level. Do you like Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan,” she asks!

Speaking more about the video, she adds, “I think Jacqueline (Fernandez) is as cute and chirpy in the video as she is in real life. Ek Paheli Leela, which is my first song composition, is again filmed on Sunny Leone.”

Excited about her latest venture on cricket, the song Heroes (we could be) which has been released by Universal Music and Chhil Gaye Naina in the Anushka Sharma-starrer ‘NH 10’, Kanika says, “I started with dance numbers because that’s what I was offered but my personal favourite is Sufi, which you will hear soon on my YouTube channel. At the same time, I have a lot of dance music coming up.”

A big fan of renowned singer Shubha Mudgal, Kanika will soon be singing in
Abbas-Mustan’s upcoming project.

“The film marks Kapil Sharma’s debut and I will be singing a duet with him,” says the songstress.
Soon, she starts talking of her singles and says, “You will get to see a lot of me on screen in my singles. I haven’t taken any training for the videos. But if I’m asked who I would want to look like, the answer would be Beyonce.”
