Kingpin involved in revenge killings held

Last Updated 10 March 2015, 01:53 IST

Police have arrested a gang leader whose enmity with another gang over ‘area domination’ led to revenge killing of five men in west Delhi in the last two months.

“Ravinder’s gang had a rivalry over supremacy in Najafgarh with Naveen Khati’s gang,” says Rajiv Ranjan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

Ravinder’s gang was behind the murder of four men, whose charred bodies were found in a burnt car in Haryana on January 1. A 65-year-old man was also gunned down in Najafgarh on March 3.

“They were victims of revenge killing in the gang war,” another police officer added.
Ravinder, a resident of Mitraon village, was absconding after the recent murder.

On Sunday, police were informed that he would come to meet a relative in south-west Delhi’s Dwarka.

At 5.30 pm, he was seen de-boarding an RTV bus which had come from Uttam Nagar.
“Ravinder was apprehended and a country-made pistol of .315 bore was recovered,” the officer said. A case under Arms Act has been registered with Special Cell police station.

In the wee hours of January 1, Manish, Sandeep, Sudhir and Deepak, residents of Mitraon village, were shot when they were returning home after New Year celebrations.
The bodies were then kept in a Toyota Etios car, which was taken to Haryana’s Jhajjar district and set on fire. They were found in the car’s trunk and on the rear seat on January 1. A probe has revealed that Ravinder’s gang planned the killing to avenge the murder of his brother and the humiliation that he faced from Naveen while being lodged at Tihar Jail.

Ravinder and Naveen are registered as bad character of Baba Haridas Nagar police station in outer Delhi. Earlier, they were members of Anoop gang. But differences cropped up after Anoop’s death.

In February 2014, a 24-year-old gang member was also killed after being kidnapped from Najafgarh. Police had arrested three men and recovered the body from Haryana’s Jhajjar district.
