Demand in LS for dismissal of Mufti govt

Last Updated 10 March 2015, 09:44 IST

A demand was raised in Lok Sabha today for dismissal of Mufti Sayeed government in Jammu and Kashmir and a ban on PDP in the wake of its "anti national" act of releasing hardline separatist leader Masarat Alam .

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, AIADMK leader P Venugopal said his party was "not satisfied" with the explanation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the issue given to the House yesterday.

He wanted to know what sort of clarification has been sought by the Centre from the state government.

Modi had yesterday denounced the release of Alam and Rajnath Singh had said his ministry had sought clarifications from the state government over the issue.

Venugopal said what has "added insult to injury" is that the state Chief Minister has asked the police to release a dozen more separatists including some political prisoners.

He said the BJP has to come out of the coalition government in the state and the Centre should ban PDP for taking up the separatist cause.

His party colleague Anwar Raza said the Mufti government should be dismissed as it was "acting against sovereignty of the nation."

This was the second day that the issue of Masarat Alam was raised in the Lok Sabha. Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh had made statements in Parliament on the controversy.

Members raised several issues during the Zero Hour with Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav (RJD) expressing concern over the havoc caused by the spread of swine flu in several parts of the country.

He accused the government of mismanaging the issue, saying there was paucity of medicine and trained personnel as also lack of public awareness.

BJP's Sanjay Jaiswal demanded putting in place maximum retail price for medical implants required in cardiac and orthopaedic surgeries.

He alleged that a huge racket of fleecing patients was going on, involving doctors and chemists. Big companies were importing the implants at a fraction of the price and these are being sold in the market, he added.

Thokchom Meinya (Cong) demanded repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act.He said the Home Ministry has opposed the recommendations of the Justice Reddy committee report which favours repeal of the law. He said the Home Ministry should be asked to have a relook at its decision to oppose the Act.

The House also saw Leader of Congress Mallikarjun Kharge making a strong plea that the Prime Minister raise with Sri Lanka leadership during his upcoming visit there the issue of statement by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wikramsinghe that Indian fishermen in Lankan waters can be shot.
