Last Updated 10 March 2015, 17:29 IST

Endo Virodhi Horata Samithi member Kushalappa Gowda alleged that the government has stopped privileges such as monthly pensions to endosulfan victims and  warned the victims will commit mass suicide in front of assistant commissioner’s office if government fails to provide pension within 10 days.

He was  speaking at a protest rally held by Kokkada and Puttur Endo Virodhi Horata Samithi, seeking total implementation of court orders regarding endosulfan victims.

He alleged that elected representatives and officials have been cheating endo victims giving false assurances. The rehabilitation centres have been established for namesake and no basic amenities available at these centres.

The endo victims have decided to commit mass suicide, he said, holding government directly responsible for the present situation of endo victims. He alleged the State government has decided to establish a society to appease endo victims.

This only creates middlemen. Instead of forming society, government should transfer the amount directly to bank accounts of victims, he urged.

No pension

Kokkada Endo Sanstrastara Horata Samithi President Shridhara Kokkada claimed that the victims are not provided with pension from last two months.

There are no doctors and medicine in health centres. Medical students are treating endo victims. Some victims are recommended to hospitals in Mangaluru.

Though demand has been made several times to launch a website to display information on benefits given to endo victims including monthly pensions, district administration has not taken any measures.

Only 42 out of 600 needy endo victims in the taluk have been provided with KSRTC bus pass.

There are neither doctors nor medicines in endo victims rehabilitation centre. We are not begging in front of the government but are asking for our rights. If the government does not respond to the demands of endo victims, a huge protest will be held in front of the DC office, he warned.
