Rs 2,500 crore funds sought for Ambedkar Corporation

Ambedkar Development Corporation Chairperson Mallajamma said that an appeal has been made to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to provide more funds for the Corporation to be utilised for the development of dalit communities.

Addressing a press meet in Mandya on Tuesday, Mallajamma said that there were 1.20 crore dalits in the State, and that an appeal had been made to allot Rs 2,500 crore funds for the Corporation.

The Corporation had also sought an amendment so that the surplus funds in the Corporation can be utilised during the following year.

Amendments
Mallajamma also stressed that there was a need to make amendments to providing education loans, so that it can be implemented from the next academic year.

Loan facility
“Direct loan facility has been sought for the physically challenged and pourakarmikas, while loans have been sought for the self employed, and advocates to set up offices.

Around two lakh beneficiaries will be identified in four revenue divisions and they will be provided proper training before they begin their businesses,” she said.

The district has 14.69 per cent SC population and loan facilities have been extended to them under various schemes. During the year 2014-15, Rs 799 lakh loans will be disbursed to all the beneficiaries, she added.
