JOIN USAnticipating water shortage in few parts of the district in the coming summer months, the Zilla Panchayat will operate Jalaseva control rooms from all taluk headquarters from Tuesday.
The control rooms will be operational from 7 am to 8 pm, during which people can register complaints regarding shortage of water.
Speaking at a press meet, ZP president Pushpa Amarnath said that a control room will also operate in the district level, and steps will be taken to ensure water supply as soon as a complaint is lodged.
Considering past experience, villages in Jayapura hobli of Mysuru taluk, Hanchipura, G B Saragur and Kyathanahalli in H D Kote taluk, Doddakavalande in Nanjangud taluk and Bilikere Hobli in Hunsur taluk are likely to face water scarcity in the coming months, she said.
However, with the multi village water scheme to provide water supply from Kabini reservoir for villages of Jayapura hobli almost complete, scarcity in several villages will be sorted out.
The project, taken up at a cost of Rs 19.5 crore, is closing completion and water is being supplied on a trial basis for 21 villages. The project will cover 31 villages, she said.
Tanker water supply
While Zilla Panchayat was using tankers to supply water to 19 villages of Jayapura Hobli, with the implementation of the project, tankers were being used for only eight villages.
One of the reasons is the non-availablity of a water source in these villages, as even borewells have dried up, she said.
Instructions have been sent to gram panchayats to set aside 50 per cent of the funds under the 13th Finance Commission, for works related to water supply.
This will ensure that each gram panchayat will have will have Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh for the purpose, she said.
She said that the Zilla Panchayat would take over borewells dug for agricultural purposes, if there were no other water sources in a village.
