A dream come true, says Vinay

Karnataka skipper R Vinay Kumar said that winning the Ranji Trophy a second time in a row was a dream for him and the team.

“Winning the Ranji Trophy is a big achievement. It is a dream. When I started playing cricket we used to always follow the Ranji Trophy. Winning it back to back is definitely a proud moment for the team and me,” said Vinay.

The right-arm pacer attributed Karnataka’s continued success to uncompromising hard work. “It is many years of hard work. Last year we won the Ranji Trophy and it was the result of working hard as a group. When we lost to Mumbai in Mysore in the final that was a bunch growing as a team. Then we won the Ranji Trophy and winning it really helped us to motivate ourselves to perform this year. Our goal was just to try and win every game,” he added.

Vinay also became the joint highest-wicket taker this season along with Shardul Thakur with 48 wickets. Vinay was understandably elated. “I am happy. For me the team comes first. I wanted to win the Ranji Trophy and am happy that my performance also contributed. I am working hard to come back into the Indian team and every match is very important for me. Over all my batting bowling is coming good for me and I am happy.”

Tamil Nadu skipper Abhinav Mukund tried to see positives in the defeat. “I don’t think there is no shame in losing to this side. They are a really good side. They played really good cricket over five days and they were consistent. There are areas that we have to work on but there is a ray of hope that I can see in this Tamil Nadu team. Youngsters are coming through and there are a lot of positives for us. We will take this back with us and probably come back stronger in the next season,” said Mukund.
