JOIN USA leading news channel in Tamil Nadu was attacked with crude bomb by a unidentified miscreants on Thursday morning.
The police said that the attack came just four days after the television network office faced a protest from Hindu outfits against the proposed telecast of a debate on the value of sacred 'Thaali' – 'Mangalsutra'.
However, no one was injured in the blast, which took place in the early hours and a little known fringe outfit, Hindu Ilaignar Sena, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to footage recorded in the CCTV camera installed in front of the TV channel's office, four men, who came on two motorcycles, first drove past the office of TV channel 'Puthiya Thalaimurai', located at Ekkatuthangal near the city. The gang, came back near the the office and hurled two crude bombs before fleeing the scene.
While one of the bomb, hit the front wall, the other fell in front of the entrance of the office building. Both the bombs exploded with a loud noise, creating panic.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the blasts were of low intensity aimed at creating fear among the employees of the TV channel.
A few hours after the explosives attack, Sena leader Jeyam' A Pandian, appeared before Judicial Magistrate N Mareeswari, claimed responsibility for the incident and surrendered. Later, the judge remanded him in judicial custody till March 19.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Press Club, headed by its Joint Secretary Bharathi Tamizhan and Chennai Union of Journalists founder V Anbazhagan, along with other media associations, staged a demonstration to condemn the incident and also demanded the immediate arrests of the culprits.
