Multilingual writers' meet at Mangalore University

Women’s Studies Centre of Mangalore University, in association with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, will organise a multilingual writers’ conference at Mangala Auditorium in Mangalagangothri on March 17 and 18.

Gulbarga University former vice chancellor Prof Muniyamma will inaugurate the conference on March 17 at 10 am. Feminist writer Volga will deliver the key note address. Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa will preside over the function.

In the short story session- Dr Nagaveni H (Kannada), Kuppili Padma (Telugu), Thilagabhama (Tamil), Mariam Ismail (Beary), Yashoda Mohan (Tulu) Sajani Somayya (Kodava), Catherine Rodrigues (Konkani), Manasi (Malayalam), in criticism session- Dr M S Ashadevi (Kannada), Prof Katyayani Vidamahe (Telugu), Sukirtha Rani (Tamil), Zohara Abbas (Beary), Jyothi Chelyaru (Tulu), Grace Noronha (Konkani), Mini Prasad (Malayalam), Kalmad Saraswathi (Kodava) and in poetry session- Savitha Nagabhushan (Kannada), Shajahan (Telugu), Madhumita (Tamil), Shamshad Jaleel (Beary), Athradi Amritha Deekaiah (Tulu), Shobha Subbaiah (Kodava), Smitha Shenoy (Konkani) and V M Girija (Malayalam) would participate. A total of 24 women writers from eight Dravidian languages will read out their works.

Renowned writer Vaidehi will deliver the valedictory address on March 18 at 4.30 pm. Mysore University Department of English Professor K T Sunitha will preside over. A play ‘Mecca Dari’ will be staged on March 17 from 6 pm to 8 pm.
