Allahabad incident: Advocates boycott courts; hold rally

Last Updated 13 March 2015, 17:33 IST

Advocates in the city on Friday boycotted courts and took out a rally from the Law Court complex to the deputy commissioner’s office in protest against the incident of an advocate being gunned down by a PSI at the Allahabad court premises in Uttar Pradesh recently.

The advocates led by Mysore Bar Association president B R Chandramouli stayed away from the courts soon after the courts resumed business for the day.

This was followed by the rally of advocates in large numbers to the Mahatma Gandhiji’s bust in front of the court, where a human chain was formed for sometime. The agitators later took out a rally to the deputy commissioner’s office via Vani Vilas road, RTO junction, JLB road, Metropole Circle and Hunsur road.

The advocates in general alleged that though the attack on advocates were recurring, both the Central and State governments had failed to check the same.

The authorities concerned should act sternly against the perpetrators and also rein in the policemen by devising a separate law for it.
