Housing scheme: Delay irks ZP chief

Only 290 houses have been constructed as against the target of 900 in Kolar taluk. Similarly, a mere 958 have been constructed against the target of 4,496 in Malur while in Bangarpet it is just 91 against the target of 2,212. “Do you call it progress? What is the need to conduct review meeting without any progress?” the ZP president fumed at the officers in the meeting. Srinivasan, who sought to know the reason for laxity of the officers concerned, was joined by Chief Executive Officer G V Rangarao too.
An officer replied that the list of beneficiaries prepared in four Gram Panchayats of Bagarpet was erroneous and few have obtained stay order from the court alleging that houses have been allotted to people who already own them. The reply further enraged Srinivasan compelling him to question the officer the propriety of attending meeting without proper information.

Beneficiaries in dark
The beneficiaries of housing scheme have been kept in dark and the authorities were directed to convey allotment of houses to the beneficiaries in the Gram Panchayat secretaries’ meeting. But the direction has not been complied, deputy secretary Lakshminarayana said directing to submit compliance report in the next meeting.
The Zilla Panchayat president was also irked by the delay in completion of works taken up under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund. He took a dim view of not completing the construction of buildings despite releasing the funds in July itself. He was not satisfied with “works are in progress” reply by Executive Engineer, Devaraj.
“Barely two months are left for the end of current financial year. The funds, if not utilised would to go back to government. You have not executed the work even though the funds meant for some schemes were in your account,” he noted.
In view of the absence of officials concerned,  the meeting could not deliberate on the release of funds and its utilisation under a special development programme for implementation of Nanjundappa report on regional imbalances.
Vice-president Naveeda Khanum was present in the meeting.
