A 27-year-old man has been arrested for stalking and harassing a woman in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri.

The accused had also fired a shot at the parked car of the 22-year-old woman’s male friend to threaten her last week, police said on Friday.

Vijay Gahlot, a resident of southwest Delhi’s Kakrola, was held with a country-made pistol. The woman had approached police on March 7.

“The woman runs a garment business and met Vijay during a business deal. They became friends and Vijay later proposed marriage to her. She refused due to which Vijay was harassing her,” said a police officer.

She told police that Vijay had been stalking her for the last one year. Vijay used to follow her in his car and also threaten men who met her.

Vijay has been charged under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.

On March 7, Vijay fired at the Chevrolet Cruze of her 35-year-old friend while it was parked at PVR complex in Vikaspuri.

“Vijay informed the woman that he had just attacked the car to threaten her friend and he would kill him if they continued their friendship,” the officer added.

The woman’s friend found a bullet hole near the fuel tank. He informed police and claimed that Vijay had also threatened him in the past.

On Wednesday, Vijay was arrested when he came to southwest Delhi’s Dwarka.
An initial probe has revealed that he has a criminal history.

In 2005, Vijay’s cousin Anil was murdered by a group led by Jitender. Jitender came out on bail in 2007 and Vijay killed him near Kakrola Mor to avenge Anil’s murder.

Vijay was arrested in the murder case registered with Uttam Nagar police station.

In 2012, he tried to kill a prisoner in Tihar Jail. He was released on bail in 2013.

In 2014, Vijay opened fire on his cousin Balwan Singh and nephew Rajesh.
