Man stabbed for resisting robbery

Victim is employed as Railway Guard

A 42-year-old man employed as a guard by the railways was repeatedly stabbed by three unidentified men for resisting a robbery bid near Anand Vihar railway station on Saturday night.

The victim was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital but soon referred to Railway Hospital where his condition is said to be serious. No arrests have been made yet in this case, police said on Sunday.

The victim Vishram has given his statement to police upon which a case of attempt to murder and robbery has been filed against unidentified persons. Police are waiting for him to recover before they can get details of the robbers’ appearance from him.

The incident took place when the victim had finished his duty and was returning to his home from Anand Vihar railway station at 10 pm on Saturday. Police said he had chosen to emerge from the station’s backside and took a route that is generally dark and isolated.

Suddenly he was confronted by three men who asked him to part with his mobile phone and cash. Vishram refused to oblige upon which the three robbers tried to pin him down.
The victim fought back and managed to overpower one of them. He also kept screaming to draw the attention of the public. When the robbers realised that one of them was possibly going to be caught, the two of them who were free pulled out a knife and stabbed Vishram six times in his abdomen.

The victim passed out upon which the robbers made away with his mobile phone and a few hundred rupees in cash. The guard regained his senses moments later and cried out for help. Some members of the railway staff heard his groans and rushed him to hospital.
Police at Madhu Vihar have registered a complaint. Since the spot where the crime took place is desolate, the area is not covered by CCTV cameras because of which police have been unable to identify the culprits so far.
