Last Updated 19 March 2015, 22:09 IST

‘There is none in our village to fall at the feet of politicians. Perhaps that is why, not even a penny has been released to our village for roads and bridges,” rued Santhosh of Mundugadamane, deprived of good roads and bridges.

The people of Mundugadamane, Hulugarugadde and Kaurihaklu spend the rainy season in fear as the villages gets inundated and it becomes inevitable for villagers to cross the stream using footbridge which is in dilapidated condition. The footbridge, made out of blocks of acacia wood, bears the weight of many schoolchildren, labourers and villagers. During rainy season, water level rises to 15 feet and the schoolchildren, senior citizen have to overcome fear of slipping into the stream.
The tribal population, which comprises major strength in the region, is angry over non--accessibility of benefits under Integrated Tribal Development Project. The road which leads to 200 houses in the regions, is in pitiable condition. The slope has made it unfit for movement of vehicles.

“A farm belonging to Horanau temple lies in the middle of the road and temple authorities carry out repair of the road. Also villagers join the work. But for repairs done by the people, there would have been no roads at all, villager H S Sanjiva said. We collect groceries required for rainy season, during summer. If someone falls ill, they have to be carried all the way, he said. Youth Santhosh complained that funds sanctioned for the road, has been deviated. The panchayat has not repaired drains; forget roads, he said.

If Kesuvinakonda Girijana colony is connected to Chikkanakodige via Mundugadamane, not only the distance will be narrowed by five km but connectivity will be available to Kalasa via Kallugodu and Abbugodige, villagers say. But, officials have failed to understand the same. A memorandum submitted to MLAs TP members and ZP members have gone in vain, they lamented.
