Actor Dhananjaya has never been this busy before. He has gone in for a complete makeover in his latest release ‘Raate’ where he plays the character of a village lad who moves into the City to make a living. The story captures his experience of living in the City and how the urban setting changes his life for the better.

Dhananjaya says that he plays the character of a cable operator in the movie. “He works as a cable operator in his village and when he comes into the City, he finds a job on similar lines. He never shies away from exploring the City in all its ways and in the course of his adventure, he meets a girl who happens to be crazy about Amitabh Bachchan’s films.

Her craze works to his advantage because he works as a cable operator,” he reasons. He also gathers a collection of Amitabh Bachchan’s movies just for the girl. “He tries to impress her by trying to show her as many Bachchan’s films as possible to win her love. Although, it is a love story, the concept of love has been portrayed in a very mature manner. To what extent the hero goes to win his lady love is interesting,” he says. It’s a story of love and struggle.

Dhananjaya is also working on three projects — ‘Boxer’, ‘Badmash’ and ‘Allama Prabhu.’ “I play three distinct characters in all the three projects. In ‘Boxer’, I’ve worked at getting a six pack in the movie and I play a bad guy in ‘Badmash’ and in ‘Allama Prabhu’, I play a role that I’ve never really played before,” states Dhananjaya.

He also feels that the Kannada film industry is open to making and producing off beat subjects. “This is a good trend in the Kannada film industry and I am glad actors are open to accepting non-commercial subjects as well,” he says.
