'169 persons lost life in C'magalur in 2009'

Addressing a press meet on Wednesday, he said in the year 2008, as many as 4,088 cases were registered. A total of 31 murders have taken place in the district along with seven burglary cases. Of which, culprits in six cases have been arrested. Properties worth Rs 21,31,977 have been stolen. Of which, seven have been arrested and property worth Rs 19,33,850 have been recovered.

As many as 13 persons have been arrested in rape cases in the district. In 157 theft cases, property worth Rs 61,18,898 have been stolen. Of which, 96 cases have been solved and property worth Rs 27,88,785. 77 gambling cases have been registered. Of which, 40 cases have been solved and accused have received the punishment. A total of 44 cow slaughter cases have been registered.

About 146 fatal road accidents have been registered. Of which, 147 men and 22 women have been killed. A total of 784 non fatal accidents have been registered in the district. Nearly 17,102 cases under violation of Motor Vehicle Act has been registered in the district and Rs 25,39,250 fine has been collected.
