The Police Inspector’s post at Kempegowdanagar (KG) police station, which was vacant for about seven months, was finally filled up on Monday. Giriraj, who was  serving as the Police Inspector (Intelligence) took charge as the Police Inspector.

“Giriraj was transferred from Intelligence Wing to the KG Nagar police station. He will be a full-time and regular Police Inspector henceforth,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) B S Lokesh Kumar told Deccan Herald.

A large number of locals had staged a protest in front of the police station on March 15 urging the government to post a Police Inspector to the station which had remained headless for over seven months.

The policing in the area had taken a back seat as the posts of the Inspector, a Sub-inspector, two Assistant Sub-inspectors, seven head constables, 14 constables and two women police constables at the station were vacant.

The Police Inspector’s post was vacant since August 25, 2014 when the then inspector C D Nagaraj was suspended after a youth committed suicide following ‘police torture.’ Two inspectors, who were posted to the station, did not assume charge as their posting orders were cancelled.
