Prominent personalities to be sealed in statues

Last Updated 24 March 2015, 19:13 IST

In the days to come, prominent personalities may come alive, albeit in the form of bust and statues, in the city.

Sri Shivaratri Rajendra Mahaswami’s Birth Centenary Committee has sought permission from the MCC to install the bust of the late seer at the circle named after him adjacent to JSS Mahavidyapeeth, near Gun House. The committee has offered to execute the works on its own, besides redesigning the circle island to check mishaps in the future. The circle island will be expanded further, keeping in view the beauty of the Amba Vilas Palace. In addition to this, Corporator K T Chaluvegowda has appealed to the civic body to install the statue of erstwhile ruler of Bengaluru Kempegowda at the circle named after him near Columbia Asia Hospital on Mysuru-Bengaluru road. Similarly, Corporator Satish (Sandesh Swamy) wants a statue of Sangolli Rayanna, who fought against the British, at the circle named after him at Kurubarahalli on Lalith Mahal road, followed by D Nagabushan’s demand for statues of late pontiff of Adhichunchanagiri Mutt Sri Balagangadharanatha at the circle near Apollo BGS Hospitals at Kuvempunagar and Saint Kanakadasa at Nanjumalige, also named as Kanaka Circle.

MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath, who took note of the proposals, said, action will be taken according to the recent circular from the government to invite objections, if any, from the public, before giving consent.
