Depressed over results in exams, girl kills herself

Apparently depressed over failing in her college exams, a 22-year-old girl hanged herself at her home in west Delhi’s Kapashera.

The incident came to light on Tuesday after the victim did not respond to repeated knocks at her door.

Dipali was a second-year student of Bachelors in Commerce. However, she had failed in one paper in her annual exams, sending her into depression, police said.

“She had begun to stay aloof at her home ever since the results. She had stopped interacting even with her friends,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

The family had dinner on Monday night after which she retired to her room. Nothing unusual had occurred that night which could have been an immediate cause for her suicide, her parents told police.

She did not wake up at her usual time on Tuesday upon which her mother went to check. When she did not respond to the knocks on the door and the calls on her mobile phone, neighbours were called and the door broken open.

She was found hanging from the fan. No suicide note was recovered, said police.
Police were informed and they brought down the body and sent it for a post-mortem. her father runs a small utensil shop in the area.
