7,300 quintals of rice 'missing' from godown

As much as 7,300 quintal of rice meant for public distribution system is suspected to have been missing from the godown of Karnataka State Food Corporation in Annur of Maddur taluk.

Corporation official Jayaram said that the junior assistant, in charge of the godown, has absented himself from duty unauthorisedly and could not be contacted on his cellphone. He has neither replied to a show-cause notice issued to him.

The district manager of the Corporation, on March 16, had directed to release 7,300 quintals of rice from the godown. Soon after the order was issued, Jayaram absconded and absented himself from duty with the godown key, district manager M L Panchegowda said.

The officials said they were yet to break open the godown lock to check on the rice stock.
