'It's easier to work with friends'

Actor Krishna Ajai Rao has turned a producer with his latest release, ‘Krishna Leela.’  Ajai always wanted to venture into film production but he confesses that he never found the right script but he didn’t think twice before wanting to produce ‘Krishna Leela.’

“The story is inspired by a real life incident and I was pretty sure that my money wouldn’t go wasted. I wasn’t keen on producing only a commercially appealing subject. I was looking for a story that is different and I found that in ‘Krishna Leela’,” says Ajai.

Ajai’s character in the film is that of school van driver and  the actor says he spent a lot of time with his driver to understand their life.

“I had to spend time with my driver and move around with a few school van drivers to understand their body language and live their life for a day or two just to incorporate that into my character,” says Ajai. The film traces the love that blossoms between a school van driver and a flower seller, played by television actress Mayuri.

Ajai also says that he was asked by the director to look every bit like an ordinary guy. “I didn’t have to take any extra efforts for my character. I had to look and speak like an ordinary person. It’s because of the way, I look that a lot of people have been able to
relate to the character and appreciate the performance,” he points. Ajai is thrilled
with the outcome and says that this movie has exceeded his expectations and given him good returns.

It’s a perfect love story, feels Ajai who took time off to meet these two characters
and interact with them before he began shooting for the film.

“It’s a true story and I’ve met the characters and spent a lot of time listening to their experiences. The two of them are married. The film is based on how their love grew and how it culminated in marriage. It wasn’t an easy path,” observes Ajai.

Ajai’s next release is ‘Eedendigu’ which also happens to be a love story. “I play the character of a software professional. The story deals with love after marriage. Most of the film is shot abroad,” he says. This will be Ajai’s third film with Radhika Pandit and Ajai says the two of them share a good rapport both on and off screen.

“It is easier to work with friends and it makes the job easier when the co star knows the language. Radhika and I are both passionate about our work,” he sums up.
