Comply with consumer laws, traders told

The president of Karnataka State Consumers’ Disputes Redressal Commission Justice B S Indrakala has called upon traders to follow law while conducting their business.
Speaking after inaugurating a workshop on consumer awareness here on Thursday, Justice

Indrakala said that consumer awareness had gone up in the recent days and traders should not take consumers for granted. She said that receipts should be issued for every item purchased by the consumers.

“Traders too are consumers under certain circumstances. Consumers’ rights has been included as a topic in school and college syllabus. Hence there has been a raise in awareness about consumers’ rights,” she said.

Justice Indrakala said that consumers should never tolerate violation of their rights and consumers’ disputes redressal forums had been established with the sole intention of protecting consumers’ rights.

Syed Ansar Kalim, the president of Bengaluru first additional district consumers’ disputes redressal forum said that women lack awareness about consumers rights. He said that the Consumers’ Protection Act had been amented in 1991, 1993 and 2003 to ensure more protection for consumers.

Kolar district consumers’ disputes redressal forum, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs department has organised the workshop.

Deputy Commisisoner Dr K V Trilok Chandra, Rotary Club president Nagashekhar, secretary V P Somashekhar and others were present.
