History is on our side, Ashutosh writes in letter to Yadav

Just hours before the national council meeting that led to the sacking of Yogender Yadav and Prashant Bhushan on Saturday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashutosh shot an open letter to Yadav, saying that history is on their side.

“There will be temporary setbacks but history is on our side,” he said, setting the tone for what could be expected out of the meeting that passed a resolution to ouster the duo besides two other leaders.

The trusted lieutenant of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recounted how the beleaguered leader transgressed from being the biggest trouble-shooter to being a rebel.

“You were his (Kejriwal's) eyes and ears, and also the biggest trouble-shooter. This was also the time that when everybody thought that after Delhi, Haryana would be the next breakthrough state for the AAP,” he wrote in the letter.

He claimed that Yadav may have once fancied chances of becoming Haryana’s chief minister. According to him, the ousted leader’s inflated political self-ambitions after grand victory in December 2013 Assembly polls became the flash point of Kejriwal and Yadav-Bhushan camps rivalry. Yadav apparently wanted to contest Haryana Assembly polls despite the party resolving otherwise.

“But let me also tell you, today, I am, along with thousands of volunteers, more determined to change the system for a better India. And we will succeed,” he said. Ashutosh stated that after the party’s poll debacle in the general elections last year, Yadav was working towards a plan to unseat Kejriwal as the AAP national convenor.

“He (Kejriwal) was in jail, and we all were sad; you were so insistent on the review that we all were surprised and felt bad. In fact, all of us had then said ‘what is the hurry?’” the letter says. “This was the time I felt it was not simple review which you were demanding - it was much more than that. Only history will judge what it was,” the letter added.
