All ears to melodious strains

The ‘77th Ramanavami Music Festival 2015’ is being organised by Sree Ramaseva Mandali at the Old Fort High School Grounds, Chamarajapet.

The extravaganza, which ends on April 27, is a treat for Carnatic music lovers. Over 300 artistes are performing at the iconic festival and over a lakh visitors are expected to participate in it. This festival is not only about bringing the established artists on board but also encouraging young artistes by providing them a prestigious platform.

Over the years, the festival has garnered immense recognition and people from different parts of the country attend the festival. The festival started with the melodious performance of Bombay Jayashree and party which won the hearts of hundreds of people. Among the highlights, there is a concert by Dr KJ Yesudas on April 11.

 Varadaraj, General Secretary of Sree Ramaseva Mandali, says, “This is an iconic music festival where people get an opportunity to completely engross in traditional music. This festival brings various artistes from different parts of the country under one platform, which makes it more enriching. Every year, there is a spurge of visitors and it keeps on increasing. This shows that the Carnatic music can never take a backseat. People enjoy it as much as they enjoy other forms of music, sometimes much more! Carnatic music is not just pleasing to the ears but also like a meditation which calms the mind, body and the soul.”

(From 7.45 pm to 9.45 pm) There will be a concert by TV Gopalakrishnan, Akarai Subbulaxmi, Patri Satish Kumar and Tirapatur Radhakrishnan.

    (From 4 pm to 6 pm) ‘Founders Day- Nadaswaram’ by Bangalore Lakshman, BS Ramesh Babu and party will be held. (From 6 pm to 7.15 pm): There will be felicitations to senior
musicians and musicologists in memory of SVN Rao. From 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm, a concert by Ranjani and Gayathri will be presented. The accompanists are Rajeev M, Manoj Siva and Sukanya Ramgopal.

n April 6
     (From 5.15 pm to 6.15 pm) Shashank HS and Sumukh Chandra PS (violin duet)and party will perform. From 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm (Carnatic and Hindustani Jugalbandi) by Anuradha Madhusudhan (veena) and Dr Jayanth Kumar Das (sitar).
