Vairamudi, the diamond-studded crown, and other ornaments of Chaluvanarayanaswamy temple were brought from the District Treasury amid confusions and protests during the Vairamudi utsav, in Melkote, Mandya district, on Monday.

The diamond crown was taken out in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nagabushan, SP Bushan Borase and was kept for public display for a while. Later, it was taken to the temple in a vehicle, accompanied by Karagam Narayana Iyengar and Karagam Rangapriya, the first Stanikams. After puja was performed to the ornaments at Lakshmi Janardhanaswamy temple, they were taken to Chaluvanarayanaswamy temple.

Devotees performed pujas to the ornaments at Induvalu, Sundahalli, Tubinakere and other villages en route to the temple. The procession of the deity decorated with the crown was taken out at 8 pm.

Delay
There was an hour’s delay in bringing out the jewels out of the treasury due to confusion between the Stanikams. While first Stanikam Karagam Narayana Iyengar demanded priority should be given to him, fourth Stanikam Nagaraja Iyengar and Srinivas Narasimha demanded importance.

However, as per the Religious Endowment Commissioner’s order Karagam Narayana Iyengar accompanied the ornaments. Srinivas Narasimha said, there is a confusion over the order and this was the reason for the misuse of the temple jewellery.

Protest
DSS leaders M B Srinivas and M V Krishna raised slogans against the officials for the delay in bringing out the jewellery from the treasury.

They alleged that the difference of opinion between the Stanikams has resulted in inconvenience to the devotees. The Stanikams behave as though they own the jewellery, they complained.
