Autopsy nails wife's murderer

Husband told her brother she died of natural causes

A father of three managed to pass off his wife’s murder as a natural death for two whole days after allegedly strangling her with a cloth for objecting to his drinking habit.

Her post-mortem report, however, revealed she was murdered after which the 35-year-old man was arrested.

Accused Rajesh’s three children too have told police that he would often beat her after coming home drunk.

However, no one in the family even suspected a murder till the autopsy report suggested it.

Victim Rekha’s brother Tekchand was on a visit to her home in Palam to look for a job when the murder took place.

Tekchand had noticed Rekha with swollen eyes upon arriving in Delhi two weeks ago, but his sister dismissed it as accidental.

He now alleged that the injury too was inflicted by Rajesh.

Tekchand was suddenly woken up during the wee hours of Thursday by Rajesh who informed him that Rekha was unwell and that she was not responding to him.
“I went into their bedroom and checked on Rekha to find her lying unconscious on the floor. We rushed her to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead,” said Tekchand.

The body was sent for a post-mortem even as the family assumed her to have died of some unknown disease.

“It was only when the autopsy report arrived that murder was revealed. The woman had been strangled with a cloth,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

Once Tekchand learnt of the findings in the report, he immediately spoke to his nephews and niece who revealed that their mother was a regular victim of domestic violence.

“We picked up Rajesh for questioning and he confessed after lying initially. He had killed his wife in a fit of rage, but had thought that no one would be able to detect the murder,” said the officer.
