Spiced with mushy romance, laced with fun moments, seasoned with action and peppy music, ‘Kutty’, earlier titled ‘Kadhir’, turns out to be a sweet-sour Sankranti/Pongal savoury at theatres for film buffs. A retelling of Telugu hit ‘Arya’, the campus caper, with a tale told zillion times, turns in average fare. That the film, about a carefree boy taking to all tricks in the trade to woo the girl he is falls for, comes from the director of ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ is surprising. One certainly expected better offering from Mithran R Jawahar who replicates a four-year old film.

Starting off on a flying note as proverbial Mills & Boons’ cupid saga, the film, however, meanders into mundanity and tediousness losing steam mid-stream. Like Allu Arjun who became an instant hit fetching him hordes of fans following ‘Arya’, ‘Kutty’, sees Dhanush, a house-hold name, in a tailored role, live up to his billing. Shriya is her chirpy self, while the rest go through their motions as the soporous story chugs towards its prosaic ending. If campus romances are one’s cuppa at cinemas, then ‘Kutty’ is a safe choice. Enjoy!
