Sport Ministry assures help for Baljit

Last Updated 15 January 2010, 16:10 IST

Shocked by Baljit’s outburst in which the player, whose right eye was badly damaged during a practice camp in Pune last year, alleged that the Ministry brought him back from the US midway through his treatment, Sports Authority of India joint secretary Pravir Krishn said the player was giving an untrue picture.

“This is surprising since the Ministry spent Rs 35 lakh for his treatment in the US where he underwent three surgeries,” Krishn said.

“We treated him like a family and here he is spreading misinformation. We have taken his care and would continue to do so till he regains full vision,” Krishn said.
Meanwhile, Hockey India presented a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh to Baljit towards his rehabilitation expenses. HI president AK Mattoo handed over the cheque to the relatives of the player.
