Claims tourist development activities hindered

MLC Ivan D’Souza has requested the Central government to relax Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules and to allow building constructions within the limit of 200 metres instead of the present limit of 200 metres. He urged the department of tourism to submit a proposal to the Central government in this regard.

He claimed that tourist development activities will be hindered by the rule and it will not be possible to build hotels and guest houses. He said in Kerala, Goa and Maharashtra states, a proposal towards the same is being considered in this regard by the state government.

Ivan meanwhile urged the government to provide title deeds to families residing in Bengre revenue village. In 1995, 750 families were provided with the title deeds and there are as many as 300 families. A plea has been submitted to the revenue minister in the Legislative council and the minister has replied that as the village is in the limits of MCC, the MCC should provide accounts to the families.

Ivan said the title deeds have not been given to the rest of 2,250 families till now and 1000 houses do not have electrification. He urged the DC and MCC Commissioner to take measures in this regard. Also, the post of village accountant in Bengre Revenue village should be filled.

He demanded developing Super Star playground, instead of handing it to private fish-meal industry. The revenue minister, answering to a question in Council, has stated that the land has not been sanctioned to any company.

He said the work towards third phase of fisheries jetty should be started soon. As there is no dredging facility in Kasaba Bengre area for BMD Ferry services, there are possibilities of boats getting damaged due to accidents. Also, the removal of silt needs to be taken up in the area, Ivan D’Souza said.
