Union Minister Kalraj Mishra's car was involved in an accident near the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Wednesday. Mishra, however, escaped with minor bruises.

The Minister’s vehicle was hit by a Maruti WagonR car coming from the wrong side near Centaur Hotel.

Mishra is the Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the BJP-led NDA government. He is a member of Parliament from Deoria constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
On Wednesday, Mishra was traveling with his personal assistant and driver in a Toyota Corolla car. “The incident took place outside Centaur Hotel at about at 9.30 am,” said a police officer.

Mishra’s car was moving away from the hotel when the WagonR came to a parking area for taxis in front of the hotel.

“The vehicles were in opposite directions and the WagonR hit the Corolla’s bumper and tore it away,” the officer added. Nobody in Mishra’s car was injured.

The driver of the Wagon R has been identified as Ashish Sharma, a resident of Sadh Nagar near south west Delhi’s Palam. He was apprehended and handed over to police by Mishra’s personal assistant.

A case under section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Ashish. Ashish works as a driver with a hotel in central Delhi’s Janpath.
Sources said he was subsequently questioned by the Special Cell of Delhi Police to rule out any conspiracy behind the incident.

On June 3, 2014, Congress leader Gopinath Munde died due to internal injuries sustained in a road accident.

The 64-year-old was on his way to the airport when his Maruti SX4 car was hit by a Tata Indica car. Munde's liver was ruptured in the accident and he suffered a cardiac arrest due to shock.
