The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Administrator T M Vijay Bhaskar cracked the whip against palike officials and gave them 24 hours to supply essential gears like gloves and rubber boots to Pourakarmikas.
Vijay Bhaskar and the BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik met Pourakarmikas in Devara Jeevana Halli under Pulakeshinagar Assembly Constituency. The Pourakarmikas told them of the day-to-day challenges they face. The ward is considered to be the most backward in the City.
The insensitivity of Palike officials enraged the Administrator, who took them to task. He sought to know why the conditions mentioned in the garbage contract were not fulfilled and the Pourakarmikas were forced to work in such deplorable states. “Why should you continue in the BBMP when you cannot carry out minor works? Be ready for marching orders if you fail to supply gloves, boots and other important gear within 24 hours,” said the administrator.
Later, the two officers inspected the ward, the condition of roads, footpaths, drains, stormwater drains and garbage disposal system. The officers were upset that a newly asphalted road was dug up by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to lay pipeline.
Vijay Bhaskar told reporters that he would speak to his counterpart in the BWSSB and make sure there is proper coordination between the two agencies before carrying out works, henceforth.
