Top dwarf player an attendant in club

Prabhu has bagged gold and silver in badminton tourneys for dwarfs

The 38-year-old Prabhu from Kudremukh has won a gold medal in singles and doubles national badminton tournament held for dwarf persons.

He was selected for world tournament in dwarf category scheduled to held in February in South Korea.  However, as other players did not turn up, the tournament was cancelled. He has been selected for the French Open tournament.

He is eager to take part in the tournament. However, his financial status might come as a hindrance for taking part in the tournament.

Prabhu had come to Kudremukh from Aloor in Bellary along with his brother in 1984. He had studied upto SSLC. Later, he joined Kudremukh Officers Club as Club Boy and started playing with the players in the badminton court.

Slowly, he developed interest in the game. With the support of KIOCL’s B K Manjunath and help of Officers’ Club, he was able to take part in Badminton tournament for dwarf in 2009.
Prabhu is also a trainer and trains B M Rahul of Kudremukh, who is one of the top players in the State.

Life is not all that easy for him. As a temporary worker at Club, he is worried over his livelihood with the KIOCL closing down.
