No surveillance on ministers, says Acharya

It was a plainclothes man posted on duty at the Banashankari temple who clicked the photograph of the Minister for Housing and Muzrai S N Krishnaiah Setty during his visit there on Friday last, he said.

'Intelligence sleuths have not been asked to keep tabs on movement of ministers and their (ministers) activities are not being videographed or telephones bugged,' Acharya said.


Scientific centre in B'lore to increase police efficiency

The Silicon city of Bangalore will soon have a modern scientific centre built at the cost of Rs one crore to increase police efficiency, Karnataka Home Minister V S Acharya said.
"The new state-of-the-art scientific centre will increase the efficiency of police department in all spheres, from traffic control, to law and order and crime mitigation," Acharya told reporters inaugurating a police station at Soledevanahalli in the city.
The setting up of the scientific centre was part of the ongoing modernisation programme of police department, he said, adding that the centre would come up by this year end.
Acharya also commissioned 18 new multi-purpose "Hoysalas" (Sports Utility Vehicles) on the occasion with emergency medical equipment which would function both as patrolling and rescue vehicles. The vehicles cost Rs 24 lakh each.
Besides, He commissioned five traffic-interceptor vehicles with modern traffic monitoring equipment to check overspeeding.
Acharya released two booklets "Catch them young" in English and Kannada, to promote traffic awareness among children studying in fourth to seventh standard.
