Ramdev nixes charges over medicine to get male child

Yoga guru Ramdev on Friday denied that the “Putrajeevak Beej” medicine sold by his pharmacy promises male child. He also demanded an apology from JD(U) leader K C Tyagi on the ground that he was “spreading lies”. He, however, agreed to add a disclaimer on the product.

Ramdev also accused the MPs who are raising the issue in Parliament of defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi by “maligning a yoga guru”.

The denial invited strong criticism from Tyagi and others. Tyagi on Friday asked Ramdev to apologise for misleading the nation as his medicine “did not have any scientific basis”.

CPM leader Brinda Karat demanded action against Ramdev under the Pre-natal and Diagnostic Act.

Ramdev also took a dig at Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan, saying she was raising the issue because she was not getting opportunity to act in movies.

In a press conference convened to refute the allegations, the yoga guru said those who were raising the matter did not know anything about Ayurveda and were mocking at it.

Ramdev said the medicine only helped childless couple conceive. He also claimed the medicine has been named after the botanical name of the herb “Putranjiva roxburghii”, and refused to change the name.
