Missing boy's body recovered from sewer in outer Delhi

Last Updated 03 May 2015, 03:04 IST

A 10-year-old boy’s body was recovered from a sewer in outer Delhi’s Samaypur Badli on Saturday. The boy had gone missing since Friday afternoon and a case in this connection had been registered at the local police station.

Dozens of locals gheraoed the Samaypur Badli police station after the incident came to light. They alleged that despite registering a missing complaint, the police were callous in their approach in searching for the boy.

Police assured the protesters of a swift investigation into the case after which they returned to their homes. The missing case was converted into a murder case and is being investigated.

While police are looking into the murder angle, the possibility of the death being accidental has not been ruled out either. Locals have alleged that the sewer in which the body was found had been uncovered for at least a month and several complaints to the local authorities had gone unheard.

A native of Bihar, the boy Abhishek stayed in the JJ Colony of Samaypur Badli with his parents and three siblings. He was a class five student at a government school in the neighbourhood.

“He was playing in a park near his house on Thursday when he suddenly went missing. His parents approached us after their search in the locality proved futile,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

The body was discovered floating in a sewer by some children who were playing in a park on Saturday.

The sewer where the body was found is located in his locality itself, but some distance away from where he had gone missing.

Police were called and the body fished out. There were no visible external injuries on the body because of which there is the possibility of the death being an accident.

“We would know for sure only after we receive the autopsy report,” said police. For now, several persons known to the victim have been questioned. His parents have claimed they were not having any enmity with anyone.
