JOIN USA 26-year-old house wife committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her residence on Modi Road in DJ Halli on Friday night.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Shabeena. She was married to Irfan, an autorickshaw driver, for around six years. The couple used to quarrel frequently over some personal issues.
On Friday night, Irfan came home and picked an argument with his wife. After a few minutes he went out for a walk. Shabeena doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze.
Hearing her screams the neighbours informed Irfan who rushed her to Victoria Hospital.
On Saturday evening, she succumbed to burns, said the police.
Shabeena’s father had lodged a complaint against Irfan with DJ Halli police alleging that the accused used to torture his daughter everyday.
Unable to tolerate the constant harassment, she committed suicide. He said that Irfan was a chronic alcoholic and had sold off the autorickshaw which Shabeena’s father had bought for him. The DJ Halli police have booked a case under Section 306 IPC (abetment to suicide) and have arrested Irfan.
