Puttige seer Sugunendrateertha, whose term ended on Monday, handed over the mutt keys, the ‘Akshaya Patra’ and ‘Sattuga’ (perennial bowl and spoon) to the new Paryaya seer. He was in charge of the temple twice earlier during 1978-80 and 1994-96.

Procession

Lakshmivarateertha along with other seers of Ashta Mutts (except Puttige seer who was performing Nairmalya Pooja in the mutt and Admar seer who was absent) were brought in separate palanquins to the Krishna Mutt in a procession.

Thousands of devotees thronged Udupi to witness the three-hour event which featured 26 tableaux, 25 art and bhajan troupes from various parts of the State and outside. Ritual of handing over power followed the procession. Later both Puttige and Shiroor seers held an informal ‘Durbar’ (assembly) at Badagu Malige. The formal Durbar was held at Rajangana.
