Unveiling this year’s theme - Paradise Awaits 2010 -  the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Tourism department announced it would be conducting more festivals across the state and reviving old festivals too.

In a bid to attract more domestic tourists, the tourism department has also announced introducing membership cards through which the tourists can avail discounts during all seasons.

“The forms for membership cards will be available online and memberships are available in gold class, club class and executive class. People can avail 15 per cent discount in accommodation and 10 per cent discount in food through this membership card,” said Shamim Ahmed, general manager, J & K Tourism Development Corporation. He added that this facility will be available in all the government accommodation facilities, which has 2,200 beds in all price categories across the state.

Apart from this, Ahmed said that starting summer, they would also launch online registration forms for tour operators for easier booking of packages. “We also want to woo the Kannada film industry to our region,” he said.

As for the safety of tourists, Ahmed pointed that in December 2009 alone, 57,000 thousand tourists had visited the state and a total of 5.27 lakh tourists had visited the state last year.
