With a dose of glamour

Being an incessant chatter is a challenge by itself. To weave magic with words endlessly is what television anchors thrive on. “It’s all about packaging and taking the right decisions at the right time,” says Archana Vijaya, the commentator and anchor of ‘Extra Innings’ on Sony Max this IPL season.

Archana confesses that she was an ordinary college-going girl until she bagged the top slot for ‘Get Gorgeous’ in 2004 and from then, she was unstoppable. She has hosted many a television  and reality shows and hit the ramp several times but hosting IPL ‘Extra Innings’ has not only given her that extra edge but also inspired her to work hard to change her presentation style. Her first tryst with cricket and with live television was with ‘Neo Cricket’ when she was asked to host ‘Tour Diary’, a travel show where she got the opportunity to travel with the Indian cricket team and the visiting team to their various playing destinations, taking the audiences through her own journey as a cricket fan. “The sheer spontaneity of an anchor’s job is enough to keep you on your toes.

Women anchors must not only dress well, look good but make sense when they talk, else they will all appear silly,” reasons Archana. She pitches in saying that she has observed people passing comments, the moment a well-dressed woman anchor takes charge. “You have to prove the comments wrong and that can come only through your hard work which is what I did and continue to do,” she adds.

Archana states that the thrill of IPL is getting better every season. “This cricketing format has managed to maintain its glamour. There’s healthy competition among the teams and the sportive aggression among the players is what keeps the game going,” she states.

While work is going great guns for Archana, she is now on a perpetual high because she just got married. She always gets asked if marriage has changed anything. “Nothing has changed. My life is exactly the way it used to be,” she states. She confesses that she can’t wait for the IPL to get over to take a break and go off on her honeymoon. “Marriage has instilled a sense of calm and stability in me and I now feel like I am a lot more settled,” she signs off.
