Raid on shops selling prohibited plastic

Led by Town Panchayat social justice committee standing committee President Pramod Muttappa, a team carried out raid on wholesale shops and seized plastic items that were less than 40 microns, the sale of which has been prohibited.

The move of the raid team was in the wake of complete ban in the Town Panchayat limits. The authorities also slammed fine on the sellers.

Pramod and Health department officials conducted a raid on a book store and seized plastic carry bags less than 40 micron, worth thousands of rupees and slammed fine on the shopkeeper.

Later, the team raided various plastic wholesale shops and other shops. The shopkeepers who possessed very less quantity of banned plastic were warned.

Speaking on the occasion, Pramod Muttappa said that despite Panchayat imposing ban on plastics, the usage of banned plastic has not been stopped. The raid was conducted on receiving the information that the retails shops are supplied with the plastic, by wholesale shops. Currently, fines have been imposed on violators. If the sale of banned plastic continues, the license of the shops will be terminated and the shop will be sealed, he said.

Health Officer Sathish, department staff Mohan Kumar, N Ganesh, R Manjunath, Babu and Vasanth were present.
