A team of officials headed by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner V Shankar had visited Linganahalli lake and the encroached lakebed area, following which they had directed Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and local residents to submit all concerned documents.

Earlier, the Urban district administration had decided to start issuing notices to encroachers from Wednesday (May 6), but now this decision has been postponed to Friday because the officials want to be sure of the survey maps and records.

“The decision on the issue has been postponed till Thursday and from Friday onwards we will start serving notices to encroachers. The change in decision is because we still are yet to prepare the perfect survey maps. We have survey reports from Revenue department and maps of 1938 and 1958. We will match the maps with the records which the BDA will give us and also visit Bilekahalli area. Notices will be issued to residents only after this process, explained the official.

As per basic information and government records though the layout work started in 1986-87, gazette notification was issued for 884 acres in 1991. The government order was withdrawn in 2003. Now, as per government records, survey number 167 with 410 houses (measuring 80x100 sq feet) is a lakebed. “But, the BDA is maintaining otherwise. Hence, we have given 15 days’ time to BDA and residents to present all the documents. The demolition will begin only after we get an accurate picture. This information has been communicated to the Lokayukta also,” the official said.

In the meantime the BDA officials said that they had not yet received any communication from the deputy commissioner’s office nor had the residents from Dollars Colony approached them. “The layout was formed in 1986-87 and then as per our records there was no encroachment on any lake bed,” they said.
