Man stabs wife to death over Rs 10

Accused went into fit of rage after getting slapped

An argument over Rs 10 led to a 61-year-old man stabbing his wife to death in west Delhi’s Nangloi on Monday afternoon. The accused was nabbed from the crime spot. The 42-year-old victim Rani was Ashok’s second wife after he separated from his first wife several years ago.

It was a second marriage for Rani too who had moved in with her two sons, aged eight and six years, born from her first husband. The children were away at school at the time of the murder.

Police learnt of the murder from Ashok’s neighbour Sanjay at around 12 noon on Monday.

They reached the spot to find Rani lying dead with several stab wounds and Ashok standing nearby. His clothes were soaked in blood.

Sanjay told police that he received a call from Ashok’s brother Rajesh who told him that the couple was fighting and asked him to go and check.

When Sanjay reached Ashok’s house, he found she was already killed. Broken bangles pieces were found scattered all around.

“Ashok was apprehended from the spot and he confessed to the murder. He claimed to have stabbed her in a fit of rage over an argument. The couple fought on a regular basis,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

It was during the argument that Rani slapped him, Ashok told police during questioning.

In a fit of rage, Ashok brought a knife from the kitchen and repeatedly stabbed Rani, leading to her death on the spot.

There were over a dozen stab wounds on her abdomen, chest, neck and other parts of the body, said the officer.

Ashok who worked for a small establishment in the area has been booked for murder.
